On May 19, the South African government announced an increase in import tariffs on certain steel products, with rates ranging from 10% to 30%. The move aims to ease pressure on the local steel industry caused by weak market demand and rising global steel imports.
The tariff adjustment covers flat-rolled iron and non-alloy steel, steel bars, wire rods, steel pipes and tubular goods. Previously, tariffs on these products stood at between 0% and 15%
